MEET SVETLANA KUZNETSOVA
Born to an athletic family, Svetlana Kuznetsova might have been expected to choose cycling. After all, her mother is a six-time world champion and her father is a leading coach in the sport. Fortunately for tennis, Svetlana picked up a racquet aged seven and never looked back. With a career-high ranking of No.2 and a couple of grand slam titles to her name – the US Open in 2004 and Roland Garros in 2009 – she’s put together an illustrious career. Still ranked inside the top-10 as she approaches her 32nd birthday, her longevity is noteworthy. Without any glaring weaknesses in her game, Kuznetsova has been able to score multiple victories over the likes of Justine Henin and the Williams sisters. She’s also famed for playing epic matches and her rivalry with Francesca Schiavone has taken on legendary status after the pair battled for 4h44m in Melbourne in 2011, and then for 3h50m in Paris four years later.

Kuznetsova is fast and extremely agile. She defends the court creatively and it’s not uncommon to see her performing the splits to retrieve shots.
EXPERIENCE
With over 900 matches in the tank, Kuznetsova has plenty of experience. In the high-pressure moments, like a tie-break, she becomes more intense and plays her best tennis.
